The “European Symposium: Synergies Between EU-Funding for Defense and Dual-Use Research and Innovation” is taking place in Seville (3-4 October). The symposium is organized jointly by the European Commission and the Junta of Andalusia through the Agency of Innovation and Development of Andalucía with the support of the European and Regional Development Fund (ERDF). It aims to promote the synergies between ESIF and the European Defence Fund but also H2020, COSME, Erasmus+ and other relevant funding instruments. During the first day of the event, the European Network of Defence-related Regions (ENRD) also had a meeting in which our members Censec (Denmark) and IDEA took part.
The symposium included the intervention of five speakers: Paul Anciaux and Charalampos Giannakopoulos from DG Grow (European Commission); Krysztof Mieszkowski from the S3 platform for industrial modernisation, Óscar Giménez Mateo, presenting the project Coincidente, an example of Spanish defense funding; and Franck Bilau, presenting the project Rapid, and example from France.
The following session was addressed by Matthieu Doussineau, policy analyst from the European Commission; Esteban Pelayo, presenting the project #ReConfirm, an EU funded project designed to help European regions and industrial stakeholders to implement their action plan under S3P; Carmen Sillero from Agencia IDEA, explaining the RIS3 dual defense Andalusian priorities; Annie Audic, who explained the interregional cooperation on smart specialization from Bretagne (France); and Goran Basarac, who gave a brief vision of the RIS3 dual use and defense priorities in Croatia.
