It is with immense sadness we have learned that our former Vice-President Lucyan Papiernik from IGRETEC, Regional Development Agency of Charleroi (BE) has passed away far too soon.

Lucyan stood at the cradle of EURADA’s creation in the early 90s and served on its Board and Executive Committee. He was a very active and interested EURADA member until his retirement.

As head of the Unit of Economic Development at IGRETEC, Lucyan was the driving force behind the creation of Charleroi’s aeropole and enlargement of the hub known to many members as “Charleroi Brussels South”. This enabled the attraction of a lot of FDI and generated numerous jobs in a region that was plagued for many years by a high unemployment rate. The aeropole currently boasts three of the best research centres of Europe: CENAREO (aeronautics), CETIC (information and communication technology) and IMMUNE HEALTH (life sciences). It is home to world-renowned companies and its Biopark houses university research centres, technology platforms, companies, research and development facilities, incubators and a biotechnology training centre.

Lucyan leaves a great legacy that will benefit the Charleroi region and its inhabitants for many years to come.

Adieu Lucyan, et merci pour tout!
