Three new members reinforce EURADA's network

Learn about the Municipality of Plovidiv, Choose Paris Region and Malta Enterprise

We are proud to announce that we recently welcomed three new organisations as members of the Eurada network.

Sitting at the crossroads of Europe and Asia Minor, Plovdiv not only lays claim to the title of Oldest Living City in Europe, it is currently also the largest industrial centre of Bulgaria. There are approximately 75 000 jobs in the manufacturing sector, which constitute 1/3 of all employed in Plovdiv district. Plovdiv is also the region with most people working in manufacturing companies in Bulgaria. A vibrant medium-technology cluster has emerged in the industrial zones around Plovdiv, employing over 39 000 people or more than half of the local industrial workers. That includes many auto suppliers, as well as other producers of machinery, metal, electrical and plastics products. The labor force is specialized but nevertheless readily adaptable to the demands of the automotive producers and suppliers.

With a population of over 535 000 people, the city has a well-balanced mix of manufacturing and services. Due to its strategic location and excellent connectivity, the larger Plovdiv area has established itself as a leading transport and logistics centre.

The local IT sector is another sector that has experienced steady growth. Business process outsourcing is another rapidly growing service sector that takes advantage of having a young and well-educated workforce. This is helped by the well developed educational system in Plovdid, preparing many students in technical and industry-oriented disciplines. Plovdiv is positioned as a leading university city of national importance, second only to the capital Sofia. There are 9 universities and colleges in Plovdiv with 41 549 students, 80 vocational training centers and 29 vocational high schools.

Furthermore, Plovidiv boasts a multitude of ancient historical sites, making it a popular tourist destination for both national and foreign visitors. This ancient city has an amazing historical and cultural heritage and an incredible Old Town, a candidate for the UNESCO World Heritage List.
