SUMMARY:UNLOCKING DIVERSITY - Webinar 1: Access to divers finance in times of crisis
DESCRIPTION:In our globalised times of constant changes\, diversity has become a fact of life in Europe. It is sufficient to wander around a European city to see how our societies are more diverse than they have ever been. This diversity – or\, in some cases\, even “super-diversity” – has brought about a long list of benefits: it fostered the development of new businesses\, contributed to establishing new cultural manifestations and even helped with the renewal of entire neighbourhoods in cities. The benefits of integrating diversity have proven to be considerable according to extensive research\, which has shown that diverse communities\, organizations and institutions may enjoy a performance advantage. \nAnd yet\, in many cases\, this benefit is still misunderstood: diversity is more often seen as a problem to solve or as a danger\, rather than an opportunity. As a consequence\, in many areas\, diversity still has an untapped potential\, hidden behind a barrier of misunderstanding and mistrust. This situation is not only unfair; it is self-defeating. In a globalised economy in which success often means the ability to innovate and to let knowledge circulate\, not being able to integrate diversity risks heavily damaging on the long-term the economic well-being of Europe and its ambition to remain one of the biggest and most performing economies in the world. \nIt is therefore in the best EU’s interest to recognize the value of diversity and learn to manage it correctly\, especially in times of crises\, for the benefit of all. In the framework of this global pandemic\, many topics will be addressed during this series of webinars\, such as access to divers finance\, the benefits and resilience of divers cities and communities\, the essence of migrant entrepreneurship\,  the role of Corporate Social Responsibility\,  the positive effects of diversity and its added value to our European culture\, society and economy\, while offering some perspectives on the way forward gathered in the framework of the EMEN project on supporting migrant entrepreneurship. \n

SUMMARY:IEDC Webinar: From Farmers to Grocers to Servers\, Food Systems Are Changing
DESCRIPTION:COVID-19 has disrupted food supply chains in America and around the globe. As schools\, restaurants\, and other major consumers of food products closed\, demand dried up\, leaving farmers with excess crops. At the same time\, food banks around the U.S. saw more clients as unemployment soared. These circumstances have reverberating effects on the restaurant\, agriculture\, and grocery store industries. In some way\, food instability impacts every community. In this webinar\, we will consider how economic developers can address food issues in their own communities and what to anticipate as supply chains return. \nRegister. \n

DESCRIPTION:This webinar will be jointly presented by ENRICH in China and the Embassy of Sweden in Beijing\, focusing on China’s digital transformation in the preparation for a “Post-Covid-19 Era”.  \nAlready long before the Covid-19 breakout\, the digital economy has been playing an increasingly significant role as a new driver for China’s economic growth and social transformation. During the Covid-19 pandemic period\, many companies have learned and developed “digital Covid-19 survival strategies” and have become more aware of the need for digital skills and digital competitiveness.  \nIn the past weeks\, China’s new “digital transformation package” was launched\, including “Cloud- Big Data- AI-driven New Economy Strategy”\, “New infrastructure development”\, “Data as a new production factor” and “Blockchain for Industrial IoT development”. China is seeking its way forward by stepping up its digital transformation in the preparation for a “Post-Covid-19 Era”.  In this process\, China’s digital transformation will not only need to be for growth but also for good to humanity and nature\, i.e. a faster\, deeper and more transparent digital transformation\, integrated with sustainability transformation. At this webinar\, it will be shared the observations from China’s latest policy development in the field of digital transformation as well as putting them into an international perspective\, in terms of the development at the EU-level and in Sweden.  \nRegister \n

SUMMARY:COR-OECD Webinar: The impact of the COVID-19 on EU regions and cities
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 pandemic is having enormous repercussions in the EU. In addition to the human and social cost\, economies and public finances are under considerable strain. \nAll levels of government are mobilised to mitigate its effects\, starting by the ones closest to citizens\, the local and regional levels. Cities and regions have been on the frontline to fight the pandemic\, building solidarity within their territory and providing a wide range of public services during lockdown\, to protect and help their citizens. This is especially relevant having in mind that public procurement accounts for approximately 14% of European consumption. \nFor this reason\, the Policy Learning Platform is hosting a webinar on the topic of innovative approaches to green public procurement on 25 June 2020 from 14:00 to 15:30 PM CEST. \nThe new EU Circular Economy Action Plan\, released in March 2020\, recognises GPP as an instrument for boosting the sustainability aspect of products but acknowledges that GPP has a ‘limited impact due to the limitations of voluntary approaches.’ Therefore\, the European Commission will propose minimum mandatory GPP criteria and targets in sectoral legislation and phase in compulsory reporting to monitor the uptake of GPP. \nIn addition\, the Action Plan states that the Commission will continue to support capacity building with guidance\, training and dissemination of good practices and encouraging public buyers to take part in a ‘Public Buyers for Climate and Environment‘ initiative\, which will facilitate exchanges among buyers committed to GPP implementation. \nThe webinar is of high relevance for local and regional policy makers\, having the objective to provide concrete examples of good practices that can be of inspiration to the Interreg Europe community. \nRegister  \n  \n

\nRegister. \n

SUMMARY:Project ESSPO Final Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Final Conference of the project ESSPO will be held online on the 29th of June from 13:00 to 15:00 (CET). The objective of the conference is to show the wider audience (authorities and agencies running SME support programs) how the results of ESSPO may be used in the challenging new reality expected in the post-COVID era. \nThis conference will be a great opportunity to become familiar with innovative and effective policies for supporting SMEs\, as well as how the project has impacted the nine regions of the partnership and what good practices the partners have exchanged concerning the identification of issues that SMEs face in their work (access to finance\, administration and regulatory burden\, and shortages of skilled workers). These good practices include Bind 4.0.\, a public-private acceleration programme focused on Industry 4.0 early-stage start-ups; Economic Developers University\, aimed at developing effective\, coordinated\, and professional business ecosystems by training and educating innovation intermediaries; ICT Innovation Vouchers\, a grant issued to support the uptake of ICT services in SMEs\, and SPARK Demo\, a meeting platform between B2B\, B2G\, and B2C actors. \n  \nConcept  \nNo one is able to predict what will happen in the economy as the result of the pandemics as well as a social and economic lockdown. But the preparation for the “new normal” should already start. There are already some traits for the future trends\, i.e.: diversification of the supply chains\, especially re-establish/re-transferring manufacturing activities\, acceleration of digitalisation of services and products\, a decline of demand for certain services (e.g. tourism). At the moment the policies are focused on the most needed temporary aids such as solvency and jobs maintenance subsidies. The experts of the ESSPO Interreg Europe project have more to say on the next steps\, that is:  \n\nRecognition of the needs of SMEs: Support instruments need to address the real needs of SMEs. There are experiences with practical solutions for the recognition of SME needs\, as groups (segments) and individual companies as well shared good practices on how to generalize the knowledge on individual needs for better targeting the support for the whole groups/populations.  \nIdentification of the target groups and reaching the right segments of SMEs: It is well-known that SMEs are different and the policies must be more precise in addressing the support to a specific segment. Regional economic practitioners decided to target different segments for different policy objectives.  \nAccessibility for the SMEs provided by a well-functioning network: The SMEs have difficulties in understanding the complex support system. It is the system to make the right support easily accessible. The best practices analysed are based on proximity of advisers\, who collaborate within networks in order to bring the competency needed for a single SMEs. From the policy point of view\, networked implementation brings a critical mass of results needed to reach the policy goals. \n\n\nFlexibility and speed of the support service adapted to a single SME needs: SMEs operate in competitive markets that press them to respond quickly and efficiently. The support to be effective needs to aligned with the requirement and be as quick as the company action before the market opportunity window closes.\n\n  \nAgenda  \n\n12h30 – Welcome participants\, practical information and rules \n  \n13h00 – Setting the scene – Welcome session \nKeynote speech: Post-COVID era challenges SME will face and need support \nChristian Saublens. Former director of EURADA \nInterreg Europe: Programme input for COVID and post-COVID interventions \nSpeaker to be confirmed \nESSPO lessons learnt to support SME competitiveness \nElżbieta Książek – Poznan Science and Technology Park (PSTP) \nOnline poll about SME needs \nModeration. SUMMARY:UNLOCKING DIVERSITY - Webinar 4: Corporate Social Responsibility support in times of crisis
