The workshop – organised by META Group in the context of the European Week of Regions and Cities – aims to discuss how cities can use a challenge-based approach to solve social challenges while boosting their entrepreneurial potential and the attractiveness of the ecosystem. The bottom-up, outward-looking approach enables a city to act as a service platform engaging businesses and institutions to improve the lives of citizens, visitors, and attract/retain jobs of the future. Amid the COVID-19 crisis, now more than ever, there is a need for engaging digital solutions designed to provide fast responses to identified urging needs.

The workshop, divided into four sessions, shall serve as an inspiration to the present audience by showcasing current examples of a challenge-driven approach that has identified innovative, green solutions that have mobilised public-private actors, as well as the broader range of stakeholders around its implementation, and has led to the boosting of the entrepreneurial ecosystem. The approach that will be presented is based on the so-called Innovation Platform evidence-based solution, which has supported 1045 entrepreneurs in proposing more than 653 solutions to 99 problems faced by regional authorities.
