FOSTERING SYSTEMIC INNOVATION FOR HEALTHY AND SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEMS

Research and innovation are key drivers in accelerating the transition to sustainable, healthy and inclusive food systems from primary production to consumption, addressing the overall challenge of feeding a growing population while ensuring that the economic, social, and environmental foundations of food and nutrition security for current and future generations. The Farm to Fork Strategy sits at the centre of the Green Deal and underlines the importance of a fair and just transition that encompasses all actors in the food system. To achieve this, innovative systemic solutions that can be scaled up are needed. In September, the European Green Deal calls will open with one call area dedicated to Farm to Fork.

Organised by the Bioeconomy WG, the workshop will focus specifically on the regional and local research and innovation ecosystem and the involvement of a wide range of stakeholders (quadruple helix) in applying a system approach to food systems.

The workshop is divided into two parts: an information session and a project development session.

SESSION 1: The policy context – Farm to Fork and the European Green Deal (11.00-13.00)

This session includes presentations on the Farm to Fork strategy and the European Green Deal as well as three regional cases each addressing one of the challenges outlined in call area 6.
