The Murcia Science Park improves its energy efficiency, security and expands the services it offers to companies

The Murcia Science Park (PCM), managed by INFO Murcia, has recently invested 150,000 euros in equipment to improve the energy efficiency and security of the park. The second investment of 1 million euros will follow, which will increase the capacity of the park to house more companies.

We want to showcase the improvement that the Murcia Science Park (PCM) has recently done, investing nearly 150,000 euros during the first half of the year to improve the energy efficiency of its facilities and increase security.

Managed by our member Instituto de Fomento (INFO Murcia), the park has a surface area of 6,500 square metres divided into three buildings and currently houses 21 technology companies. In the coming months, an extension is planned to enable ten more companies to move in. Costing a million euros, it will incorporate a new 1,000 square metres building, called Q, into the Science Park. This will increase the capacity of the PCM by a third.

Joaquín Gómez, director of INFO Murcia, indicated that "the companies installed in the Science Park have formed an innovative ecosystem of great added value, as they act as a vanguard of R&D in the Region. These companies pave the way for dozens of entrepreneurs who are starting up their business projects and their achievements offer specific, local solutions to the most important production sectors, such as the agri-food sector".

The energy efficiency of the facilities has been improved by installing more than a hundred photovoltaic panels that produce a total power of 49.50 KW. This measure will contribute to the environmental sustainability of the installations by reducing electricity consumption by 12 per cent and reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by 44 tonnes per year.

The investment has also been made in security, the park now counts on an I.P. video surveillance system, with high-resolution cameras, display screens, a 55-inch ceiling screen, a robotic target tracking dome and high-capacity digital video recorders. A leisure and sports area has also been created. Some of its features are a bicycle and scooter parking area, electric charging points and a rest area, a basketball hoop, an artificial grass sports area, and different facilities for outdoor training.

We believe this is a good investment made by INFO Murcia. Not only it is important to invest in expanding the park, but also to improve the infrastructures that house technology companies to make them more environmentally sustainable and appealing to these companies by offering leisure areas in the park.
