TeRRItoria (Territorial Responsible Research and Innovation Through the involvement of local R&I Actors) is a project which aims to position regions and local authorities as a factor to be considered in the overall concept of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI).

TeRRItoria operates in a context of transition in European society, which is often critical. For territorial governance, this shift and transition can be a challenge to the usual strategies and measures fostering economic development and social cohesion. In this context of contestation and transition, the concept of RRI, and by extension the search for Territorial RRI, may be a way of enabling local and regional governance actors to deal with such an era of change. By linking RRI to regions and territorial governance, the project assumes that the competitiveness of European territories and regions will be fostered. Adopting RRI into regional governance is not well documented and TeRRItoria will mark one of the first steps in exploring this area.l

EURADA is the project partner responsible for communication for TeRRItoria. Two members of EURADA also take part as project partners implementing their own transformative experiments: ART-ER Attractiveness Research Territory, the Regional Development Agency of Emilia Romagna (Italy) and ADR Nord-Est, the Regional Development Agency of North East Romania.

By using Science Education and Public Engagement, the region of Emilia Romagna is developing a methodology on how to include RRI keys in the formulation of its regional strategy for research and innovation, or RIS3. North-East Romania, on the other hand, is working to develop and adopt a local consultative tool to allow agenda setting at the local level with the assistance of a platform for innovation brokerage between local innovators and facilitators.

Moreover, EURADA has also involved other collaborators of ours in this project as third-party experts. These include four Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) which are EURADA members, which are as follows: Business Upper Austria – OÖ WIRTSCHAFTSAGENTUR GmbH (Austria), Kainuun Etu Oy (Finland), Agencja Rozwoju Regionalnego SA w Bielsku Białej (Poland) and OKA – Middle Black Sea Development Agency (Turkey). The fifth third-party expert is a local authority; Gobierno Regional -GORE- O’Higgins (Chile).

The lead partner responsible for the overall management and coordination of the project is the European Science Foundation (ESF).
