IGRETEC planted 200 fruit trees on their business parks

Today we would like to share an initiative of our Belgian members, IGRETEC. It is an initiative that contributes to the preservation and promotion of green areas for the well-being of local flora and fauna

IGRETEC is committed to the environment as demonstrated by the energy renovation projects for the buildings it manages and the development of renewable energy production infrastructures on its sites and buildings.

In order to continue along this sustainable path, they are participating in the Walloon YES WE PLANT programme, which aims to plant 400 km of hedges and/or 1 million trees by dedicating its non-constructible spaces to the preservation of biodiversity.

In February 2020, the planting of 3 orchards started in 3 of their business parks. In total, 200 fruit trees will be spread over Charleroi-Airport I and Charleroi-Airport II in Jumet and the Ecopole, located in the municipalities of Aiseau-Presles, Farciennes and Sambreville.

In the coming months, apple, pear, plum and cherry trees will provide shelter and food for local wildlife. Through the planting of these green areas, IGRETEC is thus taking concrete action to safeguard biodiversity. It is also a measure in favour of the climate since the trees fix a large part of the carbon. Finally, planting orchards means offering a more pleasant living environment to the occupants and visitors of our parks.

Partnerships will be established with the municipalities to promote the products of the orchards.

The planting of the orchards is carried out by our team of 6 horticulturists. Throughout the year, they oversee the development and maintenance of the green spaces of the 21 business parks managed by IGRETEC and those around their 25 buildings made available to companies (offices, workshops, laboratories, industrial halls, business centres, etc.).
