Horizon Europe
CCRI Knowledge Hub
The Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI) Knowledge Hub is a Horizon Europe-funded project under the call HORIZON-CL6-2023-CircBio-01-1, coordinated by Kveloce (Senior Europa Sociedad Limitada). With a duration of 3 years, the project brings together a total of 11 public and private partners from 6 EU countries, and acts as a “Knowledge Hub” leveraging existing initiatives and projects to foster the adoption of circular economy in EU cities and regions.

The project is positioned within the broader policy framework of EU's 2020 Circular Economy Action Plan, aiming to enhance the impact of the current Circular Cities and Regions Initiative. The initiative was launched by the European Commission with the purpose of supporting local and regional circular economy initiatives through the combination of knowledge sharing as well as technical and financial support. This multi-stakeholder collaboration and support scheme are available and accessible to speed up circularity at local and regional level.
CCRI's Knowledge Hub main goal is to promote and make the circular economy concept a reality in EU cities and regions and particularly in those in the early stage of circular economy transition. To achieve its objective, CCRI Knowledge Hub acts as a “knowledge hub”, building on existing initiatives and projects to foster the uptake of the circular economy in EU cities and regions. The CCRI Knowledge Hub formula is based on three key principles:
- Easy access to feasible systematised knowledge
- Tailor-made mentoring according to users’ needs
- Effective awareness-raising to make the circular economy more desirable.
Circular economy environment in Europe faces two distinct challenges: cultural barriers and the gaps in knowledge, skills and awareness. The expected outcomes of CCRI Knowledge Hub are:
- Enhanced resources and support for implementing circular systemic solutions in cities and regions
- Increased collaboration
- Enhanced capacity, efficiency and efficacy of organisations in circular economy
- Fostered knowledge transfer and exchange of practices
- Wide-spread and increased scope of circular innovation
- Dynamisation of the CCRI scheme
EURADA plays a strategic role in maximising CCRI Knowledge Hub’s impact. Fundamentally, EURADA has a key role in guiding EU cities and regions in the process of achieving the circular transition. For this purpose, EURADA compiles and identifies practices and material for relevant cities and regions and provides support pathways that cities and regions may follow to embrace circularity. Moreover, EURADA organises customized mentorship sessions and workshops, tailored to the cities’ and regions’ main priorities and key sectors. Further, EURADA participates in the proposal of a set of policy recommendations for each city and region, which contributes to materializing circular economy goals. All in all, EURADA acts as a knowledge provider and ensures the implementation of circular economy solutions within EU cities and regions. In turn, this contributes to strengthening the impact and to reaching the objectives of the CCRI project.
