RRA LUR under the Interreg Danube programme promotes the CINEMA project in its region

The city of Kamnik, Slovenia has a strong tradition of supporting entrepreneurship and business and is also featured as a good practice. In the framework of the pilot project “Kamnik, my entrepreneurial city”, Our member RRA LUR, in cooperation with the Municipality of Kamnik and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, managed to revitalise part of the old town centre.

This initiative was possible because of the CINEMA project under the Interreg Danube programme.

Purpose and objective of the project

The aim of the CINEMA project is to improve the conditions for creative industries and the regeneration of cities in the Danube region by developing and testing an innovative model, tools and services. CINEMA will build on capacities and foster the cooperation of all actors and stakeholders with the aim of sustainable development and with the objective of improving the conditions for the development of innovations resulting from the cooperation of the creative industries and the economic sector. Abandoned empty spaces were given new content or an image through attractive pop-up shop windows, using innovative tools and approaches such as the creative voucher and connecting owners of empty spaces with designers and entrepreneurs. You can read more about this HERE and in the publication REDESIGN YOUR CITY - engaging creative potentials for innovation, where you can also find out about other European good practices.

Three entrepreneurs who set up their businesses in Kamnik town centre were awarded a voucher worth €5,000, which they could use for a wide range of creative services. One of the spaces has been transformed into an Energy Escape Room by entrepreneur Matja Kegel, thematically linked to Kamnik, the Black Pizza sells vinyl records and a selection of local arts and crafts, and the third space offers a tattoo studio, Matcap. "These are three great business concepts that we believe contribute a lot to the attractiveness of Kamnik for tourists and visitors as well as for residents. They are innovative and enthusiastic entrepreneurs who are connected to the city and want to become part of Kamnik's entrepreneurial community", said Grit Ackermann from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who is the lead partner of the CINEMA project. Marjana Majerič, Director of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Central Slovakia Region, pointed out that innovation, mentoring and providing companies with continuous learning opportunities are key factors for the development and competitiveness of companies.

Expected project results

CINEMA will foster partnerships between municipalities, business support institutions and representatives of the creative industries and NGOs to develop:
