EURADA, together with Friends of Smart Specialisation and CDTI SOST, is pleased to invite you to the workshop “Connecting national and regional planning to European priorities: Is Smart Specialisation still relevant in the context of the new MFF?”.

The event will take place on 13 October 2025, from 17:00 to 18:30 CET, at the office of CDTI SOST,located in Rue du Trône 62, Brussels.

Organised in the context of the European Week of Regions and Cities, this timely discussion will explore the evolving role of Smart Specialisation Strategies (S3) in shaping Europe’s competitiveness, resilience, and twin transition. With the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework (2028–2034), the workshop will provide a platform for policy-makers, regional actors and innovation stakeholders to reflect on how S3 can connect bottom-up place-based opportunities with top-down European priorities.

Highlights of the event include:

  • Keynote speech byPierre-Alexandre Balland (CEPS & Harvard University), setting the scene on S3 and the future of industrial and innovation policies in Europe.
  • Two high-level panels with experts from ERRIN, SOST, Brainport, DG REGIO, DG RTD, Committee of the Regions and Prognos, addressing the role of S3 in cross-border cooperation, investment for resilience, and mapping innovation assets across ecosystems.
  • Networking drink from 18:30, offering participants the chance to exchange with peers from across Europe.

This event also comes at a special moment for EURADA: we are proud to announce that we have been awarded the S3 Community of Practice (CoP) tender, strengthening our commitment to support regions in designing and implementing effective smart specialisation strategies.
