Collaboration beyond European Borders

Created by Leticia Martínez |

EURADA has initiated a collaboration with AMSDE, the Mexican Association of State Secretaries, in order to bolster new channels of communication between European development agencies and the 32 Mexican Secretaries of Development in the field of development and innovation policies to promote the competitiveness of enterprises.

Founded in 1997, the main objective of the Mexican Association of Secretaries of Economic Development is to promote business activity through the implementation and promotion of public policies, coordinated work, and the exchange of best local practices to contribute to regional economic development. With this collaboration agreement, EURADA aims to strengthen relations between the 32 AMSDE partners and the 67 European development agencies that form EURADA, actively promoting collaboration in the framework of European and international forums, as well as exchanging experiences and knowledge of economic development policies and programmes.

The agreement contemplates the possibility of joint training and capacity building actions in the field of innovation and economic development for people working in development agencies, as well as to promote activities of common interest related to business competitiveness, joint project financing, internationalisation, and business innovation, in particular for SMEs. Within the same framework of cooperation, EURADA and AMSDE envisage the following actions:

  • Planning common projects to develop jointly advanced tools for monitoring the impact of development policies, designing development strategies, evaluation, etc.

  • Promoting and participating as an expert when relevant and appropriate in collaboration with other local, regional and international organisations. When appropriate, participating with the exchange of experts for events or cross-invitations.

  • Supporting the organisation of common conferences and workshops and facilitating the participation of members in the events organised by one of the Parties.

The exchange of knowledge and information also plays a crucial role in this partnership since both parties believe in the added value that this can bring to both organisations. Consequently, it has been agreed upon that information will be promoted in the following areas:

  • Activities of common interest related to the enterprises’ competitiveness, project financing, internationalisation and business innovation (especially SMEs).

  • Characteristics of the local and regional innovative system.

  • Common design and development of new generation of services from development agencies to meet the demands of society in policy areas such as sustainable and inclusive growth, social innovation, circular economy, etc.

During the signing ceremony of this agreement, an open dialogue was held with the members of both parties, in which experiences were exchanged, and actions and priorities for this year 2021 which will benefit both regions were identified.

The members of EURADA's Executive Committee and Board of Directors were present, such as the Instituto de Fomento de la Región de Murcia, the Instituto Aragonés de Fomento, the Agencia de Innovación y Desarrollo de Andalucía IDEA, the Instituto Valenciano de Competitividad Empresarial - IVACE (Generalitat Valenciana) and Foro ADR, Agencia de Desarrollo Regional de Alentejo or the Instituto para la Competitividad Empresarial de Castilla y León, who showed their support and willingness to cooperate with the Mexican states.

This new collaboration initiative with Mexico joins other support actions promoted by EURADA to strengthen trade links with this country and to identify and promote business opportunities for regional companies.
