EURADA Joins the New Working Groups of the Just Transition Platform

Article written by Jerome Friedrichs - Policy Officer

EURADA has joined the Working Group on stakeholder engagement of the Just Transition Platform as core member. The main mission of the working group over the next three years will be “to identify and assess approaches and good practices for engaging different stakeholder groups in the implementation of the Just Transition Mechanism”.

Since its launch in 2020, the Just Transition Platform (JTP) has been the main support instrument for the implementation of the Just Transition Mechanism (JTM). The JTM is in turn a key tool set up by the European Commission (DG REGIO) to support those regions most affected by the transition towards a climate-neutral economy (coal and carbon-intensive regions), one of the main objectives of the European Green Deal.

The Working Group on stakeholder engagement of the Just Transition Platform is continuing the work of the first round of working groups of the JTP that concluded in 2023 and will focus on involving key stakeholders to support to correct implementation of the Just Transition Mechanism. Whereas most of the first round working groups were focused on industrial sectors (steel, cement & chemicals), all the new working groups will tackle horizontal challenges. In addition to stakeholder engagement, the focus will also be on equal opportunities.

EURADA had already been a member of the first Horizontal Stakeholder Strategy Working Group, in which the Secretariat majorly contributed to the development of a Knowledge Exchange Guide.

Further information can be found on the website of DG REGIO of the European Commission on the Just Transition Platform.
